W.T. Vintners is a partnership between father and son George and George White, and sommelier Jeff Lindsay-Thorsen of Seattle’s RN74 restaurant.
“Single vineyard wines are the lifeblood of the winery,” Lindsay-Thorsen told Tasting Room Magazine. He crafts three different terroir-driven Syrahs, which are his primary focus. He originally got involved in winemaking by working harvests in Washington and Oregon “to become a better sommelier and gain a deeper understanding of the process,” Thorsen says. Somewhere along the way he fell in love with the art, launching the winery in 2007 and steadily growing with each new vintage.
The Damavian is a premium single-vineyard Syrah sourced from Les Collines Vineyard located in the Walla Walla Valley AVA that Tasting Room Magazine reported on several years ago.
Nose: Red fruit, peppercorns, crushed rock, violets and olive tapenade.
Taste: Shimmering with high-toned red fruit, rich tannins and a visceral texture. Earthy flavors of garden herbs, tobacco, violet and licorice snap on a minerally-driven finish.
Recommended pairing: Muscovy duck breast with thyme roasted blackberries or slow roasted pot roast.
