Vintner Stephanie Jones links her passion for winemaking to her avid exploration of the great outdoors. Horseshoe Basin, a stretch of unspoiled backcountry in the north Cascade Mountains, is one of her favorite trailheads and holds a special place in her heart, she says. Stephanie’s recent “trailhead series” is named after this pristine wilderness—a bold, savory red blend of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc that’s worth a climb over a mountain range although it’s not necessary to travel further than Glacier View’s tasting room in Woodinville.
Visit & Taste: Open weekends, the tasting room is located in the Artisan Hill wine district at 18744 142nd Ave NE in Woodinville. Learn more online at www.glacierviewcellars.com or phone (206) 719-1331.
Glacier View Cellars 2018 Horseshoe Basin Red Wine
92 pts.
This firm red blend offers excellent structure, with an overlay of salinity and minerally-driven spice leading to dried red cherry and juicy black fruit flavors. Multi-layered with espresso, baker’s chocolate, wet stone, dried herbs and pencil shavings. Stays focused through the long finish underpinned with polished tannins that glide along interminably. $38
