Côte Bonneville, founded by Hugh and Kathy Shiels in 2001, showcases the incredible grapes they grow at DuBrul Vineyard, one of the premium sites in the Yakima Valley (featured in the Spring 2010 issue).
Traditional winemaking techniques are combined with cutting edge science under the skillful guidance of daughter and winemaker, Kerry Shiels. Kerry has been immersed in the family’s vineyard and winery since 2005, under Stan Clarke’s tutelage and Co Dinn’s mentorship. She received her Masters degree in Viticulture and Enology from UC Davis, and worked harvests in Napa, Australia and Argentina before returning to work full time at Côte Bonneville.
The 2009 Carriage House Red Wine is a Cabernet-dominant blend with Merlot and Cabernet Franc.
Nose: Scintillating aromas of blackberry, currants, mulberry, black currants and graphite.
Taste: A polished wine offering a plush mouthfeel and silky tannins that soar effortlessly along expansive rich fruit of dark plum, black cherry, blackberry, cassis and spice notes. A strong contender to high-end French Bordeaux bottlings, this wine is deftly balanced and lingers on the long finish.
