Owned by Bowin Lindgren of Connecticut, Chateau Rollat has had an established tasting room presence in Walla Walla but recently opened a second one at their production winery in Woodinville.
The winery is named in honor of Lindgren’s great grandfather, Edouard Rollat, one of the foremost wine authorities in New York at the turn of the last century. Rollat was the sommelier at Café Martin and a broker at the Vendome. The family was prominent in the wine business in France in the 1800s and early 1900s, and Lindgren is picking up where they left off two generations ago.
Well-respected winemaker Matthew Loso has been at the helm of Chateau Rollat’s winemaking from the beginning. His agility is evident in the standout Bordeaux varietal blends, all a must-try.
Profile: The “Edouard” is a taut and focused Cabernet Sauvignon sourced with grapes grown in the Walla Walla Valley AVA. Characterized by lean fruit flavors of raspberry and blueberry compote, there are exotic spice nuances of tea leaves, red pepper and herbes de Provence. Gripping tannins embrace the lengthy and satisfying finish.
