Gary King’s scenic watercolor paintings of Champoux Vineyards in the Horse Heaven Hills appellation of Washington State capture “a sense of calm and peace,” describes the Tacoma-born artist. “The patterns of the vineyards, rows, and the braces on the ends of the vineyards give the eye a way to get into the picture. I felt it was a place the viewer could walk down…and find a quieter place.”
King spent a lot of time painting his family’s vineyards during visits to Sicily. He feels a strong connection to the land and soil of the Washington vineyards and wineries he has painted. “It’s a whole new thing for me, I usually paint boats,” he says with easy humor. “I was inspired by the views you get in Eastern Washington when the sky opens up and you get that long, distant horizon.”
Artist Gary King resides with his wife Linda on their ranch in Roy, Wash. He can be reached at kinggarnlin@aol.com.
