Anne-Marie Hedges, Owner
What has been your greatest achievement?
Life in a small French village in the 1950’s meant that nearly all families grew their own produce from Spring to Fall. The gardens were organic since the thought of putting chemicals on our fresh produce was unthinkable. That strong belief in organic was transferred to my children who after joining our wine business made sure that all our vineyards would now be organic and Biodynamic. As the years go by my belief in these growing and winemaking practices have become stronger than ever. Many people buy organic produce but are still buying wine made from non-organically grown grapes. I am proud that Hedges Family Estate made this earth-friendly decision years ago and challenge my wine colleagues and friends to do the same. That would be a great achievement, not a personal achievement, but one that we can all be proud of.

What has been your greatest passion and achievement?
Biodynamic viticulture and winemaking on a large scale has been a passion and a challenge. We are pioneers in a region that, while friendly to Biodynamic growing and winemaking, does have its challenges. I don’t ever say that I know more than the grape. Nature is the best teacher, and sometimes what we can learn by not manipulating or controlling the final outcome is the greatest achievement. My passion for this industry is the everchanging nature of it. It continually challenges your knowledge, your confidence, and your ability to keep evolving. At the end of the day, you have a beautiful product that reflects nature and the hard work of our team and family. The best part is the delight of customers enjoying an authentic product that has been an integral part of society throughout history. It’s our job to protect the land, protect this history, and provide joy in a bottle.
