Vineyard & Winery Owner
What challenge excites you most?
As a vineyard and winery owner the word vigneron has special meaning to me.
Protecting the vines during winter and early spring, managing the canopy and cropload during summer, and sampling and harvesting are the cycle of life for me. All of this is done so I can participate in the most exciting time of year—CRUSH! There is an adrenaline rush that demands you lay it all on the line, physically and mentally, every day, seven days a week. From sampling and re-sampling each vineyard block, planning what to harvest and crush, and deciding when to press, the hourly and daily demands are exhausting and exhilarating at the same time. An entire year of vineyard work culminates in two months of furious activity in the winery. By the time all the wine is pressed and put to barrel, snow can be falling, and the vineyards are going dormant for another winter.
