Lowden, Wash. — May 26, 2015 – Woodward Canyon Winery has updated the packaging for its second label, Nelms Road. The first change was switching from using cork to screwcap bottle enclosures for the 2012 vintage. The final change was a complete overhaul of the label for the 2014 vintage.
The transition to screwcaps was an easy choice. The Nelms Road price point is ideal for screwcap, and being on many glass pour lists, the screwcap makes it easier for servers to open. It also eliminates any concern about loss due to tainted corks.
The label design has changed from focusing on the 1870s farmhouse (where the Woodward Canyon tasting room is located) to a map of roads winding through fields.
“Originally we wanted to keep the farm house as the focal point of the label, but once we saw the map design, we were sold,” said owner and General Manager Darcey Fugman-Small. “The label retains that rural feeling, but is more interesting and fresh” she noted.
Another new feature on the label is copper foil to add some brightness. Continuing to strive for sustainable practices throughout winery operations, the new labels are printed on 100% recycled kraft paper. The label will now also clearly state that Nelms Road is part of Woodward Canyon Winery.
“We really felt that it was time to update the label. We are very happy with the way it turned out,” said Darcey.
Several elements will remain from the original labels, including an updated image of the house and the NELMS ROAD typeface. Produced by Woodard Canyon Winery, Nelms Road offers affordable and quality red wines meant to be enjoyed now.
