Two new Legends of Washington Wine, Bill Powers of Badger Mountain Vineyard and Powers Winery and the late David Lake, longtime winemaker for Columbia Winery, were honored at an event hosted by the Walter Clore Wine & Culinary Center on August 28 in the Willmsen Memorial Garden on the grounds of the WSU-IAREC in Prosser. The 2010 Legends were inducted into the Washington Wine Hall of Fame in front of an audience of colleagues and supporters. The event also included a live auction, specialty wine sales, and other opportunities for guests to contribute to the Clore Center. Anthony’s Home Port – Columbia Point provided a sumptuous seafood appetizer buffet during the wine reception, and Chef Dave Martin prepared a delightful meal for the guests. The generous event sponsors and participants not only enjoyed the late August evening but helped to bring in more than $40,000 for the Clore Center.
“After a brief break from the Legends event, we were pleased with the funds raised for the Clore Center and the partnership we created with the Washington Wine Industry Foundation,” said Deb Heintz, 1st Vice Chair of the Walter Clore Wine & Culinary Center. Under contract with the Clore Center, the Washington Wine Industry Foundation provided management and staffing of the Legends event.
The Legends of Washington Wine Hall of Fame is a project of the Walter Clore Wine & Culinary Center. Bronze plaques with the likeness of each inductee will find their permanent home in the Clore Center. Named after the late Dr. Walter J. Clore, the Clore Center will be a learning center that promotes Washington wine and food by engaging visitors to experience the diversity and quality of Washington’s food and wine products.
