Washington Tasting Room magazine is sponsoring WAWine, a Twitter event held on June 3, 2010 that invites people across the world to interact with each other through social media or in winery tasting rooms while sipping and celebrating Washington State wine. Organizers Josh Wade of DrinkNectar.com and Sean Sullivan of WaWineReport.com have teamed with 100 Washington wineries to participate in the event both online and in their public tasting rooms.
“Hundreds of wine loving eyes will be on Washington State during June. This is a perfect event to kick off the month and connect people,” said the events co-creator, Josh Wade. The event will leverage the collective reach of 14 prominent wine bloggers and other Washington wine events such as Taste Washington in Spokane and the 2010 Wine Bloggers Conference in Walla Walla. As wine writers descend on the state from around the country, WAWine will get their palate primed for great Washington wine.
“Our goal is to promote Washington wine and this event is a perfect fit for the magazine,” said John Vitale, editor and publisher of Washington Tasting Room. “Connecting with our readers through sites like Facebook and Twitter is just as natural today as connecting with readers that prefer to pick up a copy at a grocery store or newsstand. In fact, one recent subscriber told me flat out they never would have found us if it weren’t for Facebook. We’re thrilled to be part of this exciting event that shares the authenticity of Washington State wines with the rest of the world.”
Wade and Sullivan’s first Twitter brainchild event together, WAMerlot, saw millions of brand impressions for Washington State Merlot with over 2000 tweets from 500 people on Twitter and over 1000 people in 80 locations across the state. WAWine will bring even greater exposure to the variety and complexity of wine that grows in Washington.
