Prosser, Wash. — January 11, 2016 — Each month the Walter Clore Wine & Culinary Center sources and features wine around a specific theme. For the month of January, the tasting room will feature wines made with grapes from the Columbia Gorge AVA.
“It’s exciting to feature the Columbia Gorge AVA” says April Reddout, Wine Program Manager for the Clore Center. “Columbia Gorge and Puget Sound are the two AVAs in Washington that are completely stand-alone and not part of the greater Columbia Valley AVA. Columbia Gorge is a cooler region, turning out some great cold-weather grapes like Pinot Noir, Riesling, Gewurztramier, and Pinot Gris.”
The wineries featured during January include Ancestry Cellars, COR Cellars, Jacob Williams, Domaine Pouillon, Maryhill, and Syncline.
Visitors to the Clore Center will have the opportunity to taste these wines, for a $5 tasting fee, and the wines are also available for purchase. The Clore Center offers light bites throughout the week, and an expanded Fresh Fare menu on Friday and Saturday from 12-4pm.
The Clore Center is open daily from 11am-5pm. For a list of upcoming programs and events visit www.theclorecenter.org.
About the Clore Center
Named after the late Dr. Walter J. Clore, the Walter Clore Wine and Culinary Center is a centrally located, must-see learning center that promotes Washington State wine and food by actively engaging visitors to experience and realize the quality and diversity of Washington’s wine and food products. The Clore Center is located on 16 acres of scenic view property overlooking the Yakima River and Cascade Mountains. The property and buildings are owned by the Port of Benton, and the project is operated by the Walter Clore Wine and Culinary Center Board of Directors. Dr. Clore began his life’s work in 1937 studying vinifera grapes and their potential for growth in Washington soils. His research, a cornerstone of the industry’s development, earned him official recognition from the Washington State Legislature as the “Father of the Washington Wine Industry.”
