OS Winery announces the appointment of Scott Greer as its new consulting winemaker. As owner and winemaker of Sheridan Vineyard located near Zillah, Wash., Greer oversees all aspects of farming and winemaking. His passion and commitment to crafting world-class wines grows stronger with each vintage. As a self-taught winemaker, he understands the importance of the unique Yakima Valley site known as Sheridan.
In 1996, Greer found 76 acres of land located on a hilltop in the Yakima Valley. At that moment, he realized that his 17-year career in finance was coming to an end. The following year, he started the vineyard by planting ten acres of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Syrah grapes. Sheridan Vineyard’s first harvest was in 2000. Today, with the property fully planted, Greer continues to focus on sustainable farming practices and keeping yields low as the vineyard matures. All of this is driven by his passion to create wines of richness while maintaining a sense of beauty and balance.
As winemaker, Greer has received accolades for his Cabernet Sauvignon, Bordeaux-style blends, Cabernet Franc and Chardonnay. His first bottling for OS will come from the 2013 vintage.
Of the transition OS owner Peggy Sullivan says, “We have been buying grapes from Sheridan Vineyard since 2001 and their fruit has helped us earn critical acclaim for many of our wines. We are thrilled to not only have Sheridan’s top quality fruit but also have the expertise of Scott Greer as a winemaker. Since Scott has been a part of OS Winery wines for so many years, he has a deep understanding of our style and flavor profile.”
