One of the Pacific Northwest’s most well respected chefs, Russell Dean Lowell, is making public his amazing life’s journey. In his newly released book, In Search of Duende, Lowell offers readers a glimpse inside his private journal filled with a dozen recipes and accompanying stories. Whether Lowell is fly fishing in Baja or hanging with friends in Malibu, his charmed life and experiences make this 100-page book a delicious page-turner. A natural-born story teller, Russell will send you on the adventure of a lifetime.
A longtime avid outdoorsman, Lowell is a successful restaurateur in the Puget Sound. His spiritedness for the outdoors carries into the kitchens of his restaurants: Russell’s Restaurant in Bothell and The Garden Café at Molbak’s in Woodinville.
Lowell’s love for food began when he was a boy, catching fish and hunting small game in the mangrove waterways of Cuba. By the time he was 15 years old, he was already cooking under the guidance of a French chef in Southern California.
He has traveled extensively, honing his culinary expertise in fine dining establishments and working as an executive chef for restaurants across the country. Eventually landing in Seattle, Russell launched a catering business in the mid-90’s, serving an elite clientele of celebrities, politicians and business leaders.
In February 2014, the Washington State Wine Commission named Russell’s Restaurant ‘Independent Restaurant of the Year’.
