Lake Washington Technical College has started a new wine technology program. “Students have an opportunity to be placed in internships where they can learn from top winemakers,” says instructor Sommelier David Coan. “Upon completing the two-year program, students will have the skills they need to get a winery job or start a career at a winery.”
Rod Balsley, owner of William Church Winery and President of the Woodinville Wine Country Association, employs an intern from the nearby college. “There’s a shortage of trained winery employees and Lake Washington Technical College is providing a valuable service with this program,” Balsley said. Other Woodinville wineries that offer internships include DiStefano Winery, Anton Ville, Baer, Edmonds Winery, Hollywood Hills and Page Cellars.
