Goldendale, WA –Maryhill Winery, located in Washington’s scenic Columbia Gorge, has announced its No. 2 U.S. ranking and No. 10 international ranking in this year’s Top 100 Wineries. The prominent list is published by the World Association of Wine Writers and Journalists, a group of more than 13,000 writers, columnists, web page publishers and wine specialists from 80 countries around the globe.
The yearly ranking was first issued in 1996 and is created using an algorithm that assigns each winery points based on the number of international wine and spirits competitions participated in, the caliber of the competition and the awards received.
In 2013, Maryhill Winery competed in a total of six international competitions, the fewest number of any winery in the international top ten. However, Maryhill’s competitive ranking stems from the large number of highly acclaimed awards it received at several heavily weighted competitions, earning its place amongst the world’s best wineries.
Maryhill received 110 awards in eligible competitions in 2013. Maryhill’s awards include its many wins at the 2013 Indy International Wine Competition, such as a Best of Class for its 2010 Cabernet Franc, as well as Best in Show for the 2010 Sangiovese Proprietor’s Reserve at the 2013 New World International Wine Competition. Maryhill also won many other notable honors such as Winemaker of the Year from the 2013 Indy International Wine Competition and Winery of the Year at the 2014 San Francisco International Wine Competition.
“The diversity and quality of Washington grapes allows our team to create wines that are making a lasting impression on the international wine community,” said Craig Leuthold, co-owner of Maryhill Winery. “This ranking includes the ‘who’s who’ of wineries in Europe and around the globe, and Maryhill is honored to have placed in the top ten.”
