On Saturday, October 27th the Walter Clore Wine and Culinary Center in Prosser, Wash. will be the place for the wine crowd to gather to enjoy the quality and variety of cooler climate wines that do so well in Washington state.
“We are fortunate to have such varietal diversity in Washington, due to the micro-climates in AVAs across the state. At this festival we get to sample and celebrate wines that don’t get as much attention as their cousin Cabernet. We consider them to be gems waiting to be discovered,” says Abbey Cameron, executive director of the Clore Center.
At Winetoberfest, winemakers will be pouring Siegerrebe, Müller Thurgau, and Pinot Noir from the Puget Sound, as well as Cabernet Franc, Lemberger, and Gewurztraminer from the Yakima Valley, and more. Another highlight will be samples of Riesling, which has been experiencing a renaissance as Columbia Valley has been receiving accolades around the world. Washington Riesling has earned this top reputation as the dry styles offer intense aroma and flavor balanced by natural acidity thanks to our climate of long warm days countered by cool, crisp nights.
Tickets to Winetoberfest include an evening of tasting from 5-8pm to sample these wines and meet the winemakers. These hard-to-find wines will all be available for purchase. Tickets include a sample of housemade sausage from Castle Event Catering. Additional food items are available for purchase. Tickets are $35/plus tax ($30 for Clore Center Club members).
Looking to learn even more about Washington’s history and future around these varietals? Andy Perdue of Great Northwest Wine will moderate a panel of winemakers and growers on Sunday, Oct. 28th from 11am – noon. This is your chance to understand and explore these wines from the winemakers themselves. Panel discussion includes a guided tasting. Tickets are $25/plus tax ($20 for Clore Center Club members)
A special package ticket price for both Winetoberfest and the Cool Climate Panel is available for $50/plus tax. Tickets are available at www.theclorecenter.org.
