Walla Walla, WA – Elements of One Wine Weekend, the event combining Vintage Walla Walla® and the Entwine Grand Auction, have been rescheduled for October 15, 2011. With a record number of summer events bringing high visitor traffic to Walla Walla, the overnight hotel needs of event guests has exceeded the weekend lodging capacity currently available in the area, leaving event organizers unable to accommodate the (June 16-18) One Wine Weekend guests.
“During this economic climate Walla Walla is thriving and has become a very popular travel destination. This thrills all of us, but also presents some unique challenges” says Shontina Gianotti, managing director, Walla Walla Valley Wine Alliance.
The October One Wine Weekend will continue to include the popular Entwine Grand Auction and aspects of Vintage Walla Walla®. “It was a difficult decision to move the One Wine Weekend, but in order for us to show the level of hospitality deserved by our enthusiastic attendees, we felt it was absolutely the right choice,” says Valerie Fayette, director of enology and viticulture, Walla Walla Community College.
Nothing says summer like a barbeque. With so many visitors already in town on June 17, 2011, the Walla Walla Valley Wine Alliance is still offering up their Welcome BBQ featuring the VIKING Master of the Grill competition, the Dusty 45s band and more than 40 vintners as co-hosts at Waters Winery. Tickets can be purchased for just $50 at www.wallawallawine.com. There will also be a limited number of $65 tickets available to include the Vintage Pour reception featuring older vintage wines from more than 25 Walla Walla vintners. The Welcome BBQ has partnered with Seattle Children’s Uncompensated Care Fund with a raffle fundraiser. Those interested in attending may call Shontina Gianotti at 509-526-3117 for BBQ tickets and updated information on the remaining available accommodations.
With record procurement for amazing live auction lots, the Entwine Grand Auction is geared up for guests in October. Auction lots include several luxury travel destinations, experiential packages and collectable wines from Walla Walla wineries, and stunning artwork by many Northwest artists. Additionally, the seven one-of-a-kind barrel creations from Northwest artists will be up for bid. The barrels are going on tour and will be on display in Woodinville, WA at six host wineries, for one weekend only, May 20-22. After the Woodinville tour the barrel art will take up residence at seven wineries in Walla Walla until they are auctioned off at Entwine.
