PROSSER, Wash. — The American Society for Enology and Viticulture opens its 61st annual conference in Seattle on Monday, June 21, with the 7th annual Symposium on Cool Climate Viticulture and Enology.
The four-day conference and two-day symposium will be held at the Washington State Visitors and Convention Center in downtown Seattle. Symposium events will be on level 6.
Three current and two former members of the Washington State University Viticulture and Enology Program organized the symposium under the leadership of chair Russell Smithyson of Ste. Michelle Wine Estates.
The symposium opens at 8 am Monday with a keynote address and a discussion on the challenges and opportunities posed by climate change.
The remainder of the symposium will be comprised of twelve combined and concurrent viticulture and enology sessions, featuring local, national and international experts. The full schedule can be found here.
In addition to chairman Smithyman, the symposium organizing committee includes WSU V & E faculty members Joan Davenport, James Harbertson, an d Markus Keller, and former WSU faculty members Kerry Ringer and Mercy Olmstead.
