Woodinville, WA – Along with new wines and a new logo, Columbia Winery has refreshed their Woodinville tasting room to show off some local talent. The tasting room has dedicated more than 50 feet of blank walls to be used as a revolving gallery space for locally renowned artists to display a variety of media.
Artist Newel Hunter’s work will be on display at Columbia Winery’s tasting room from Jan. 27-April 6, 2014.
The addition to the iconic Columbia Winery tasting room is in line with the winery’s half-century tradition of drawing inspiration from their surroundings. A true epicenter of progressive innovation, the Northwest has a cutting-edge vibe that consistently serves as a muse for Columbia Winery. Each artist featured will display their work—whether it be paint, sculpture, photography, or otherwise—for a limited time.
All guests are invited to stop by the tasting room exhibit and meet one of the first artists to be featured, Newel Hunter, on January 31, 2014 at 4pm. Following years of exclusive black and white work, Newel has emerged as a brilliant colorist today. While painting, Newel is truly inspired by and often uses his surroundings as he moves around his studio using paint, raw pigment, dust, detritus and some remarkable tools to create art that is impossible to ignore.
Newel will be sharing the space with fellow local artist Susan Russell Hall. Susan seeks to find the edge between beauty and destruction through her work by applying hand-stained rice paper of tea bags to another sheet of paper, creating layers that represent personal stories. Afterward, she draws with a blowtorch on the paper to form beautiful designs.
“The gallery is one of the ways we show our thanks to this amazing region,” Senior Manager of Columbia Winery John Sportelli said. “We have gained so much from our location and this is just a simple way to show off some of the Northwest’s great talent to our visitors.”
All artwork will be for sale in the tasting room, with all profits going to the artists. The first exhibit featuring Newel and Susan will run January 27 through April 6 with free admission daily.
