Lowden, WA — Woodward Canyon Winery will open its Reserve House Kitchen for the fourth season starting Thursday, May 7, 2015. Sager Small, son of owners Rick Small and Darcey Fugman-Small, will take over as chef. The restaurant will be open for lunch Thursday through Sunday from 11:30am to 3pm through the end of October. The Reserve House offers a farm-to-table dining experience with Woodward Canyon wines by the glass or bottle.
Sager returns to the family business after earning a degree in Culinary Arts at the Art Institute of Seattle and comes to the Reserve House with experience in some of Seattle’s finest French restaurants, including Rovers, Luc and Café Presse.
“Good wine and food go hand-in-hand; you can’t have one without the other. We love to grow, cook and eat great food, and we strive to make wines for the table. It is exciting to have Sager here to be part of our team and take over the leadership at our restaurant,” says Woodward Canyon owner Rick Small.
Sager’s menu will focus on Mediterranean techniques, housemade pasta dishes, and fresh, local vegetables. As much produce as possible will be grown at Woodward Canyon’s Lazy S Arrow garden, which received organic certification through Oregon Tilth in 2014. Other ingredients will be sourced from local farms, ranches and cheese makers.
“My girlfriend and I really wanted to move from the city to the country. We wanted to be as close as possible to our food and explore our passion for growing produce and cooking with local ingredients,” says Sager.
With Sager as Chef, Woodward Canyon plans to offer more winemaker dinners and events. The Reserve House will also be able to accommodate a limited number of intimate, private events throughout the year.
