The winery has opened a brand new tasting room overlooking estate vineyards in Outlook, WA
Growers and vineyard stewards Steve and Julie Bosma have been cultivating wine grapes for nearly two decades in the Yakima Valley at Bosma Estate Vineyard. Several years ago their interest in clonal variations led them to plant six different clones of Cabernet Sauvignon at their second vineyard, Diamondback Ridge. To wit, Bosma’s 2018 Estate Cabernet is a single-vineyard red made from four Cab clones that richly complement each other with a range of voices and depth like a beautiful four-part harmony.
Bosma Estate Winery pulls from the talents of several winemakers. “We agreed early on that we didn’t want anything to pull our focus from cultivating the best grapes possible,” says Julie Bosma. “So we decided to collaborate with talented winemakers who utilize our grapes to craft our estate wines.”
Their first collaboration was with Mike Seal, winemaker and owner of Sigillo Cellars. The tradition has continued with Mike’s son, Ryan Seal, now assuming the role of the head winemaker at Sigillo. Together they remain the driving force behind the majority of Bosma’s wines.
In 2020, they collaborated with Pam Adkins of Adrice Cellars to create “Straight Shooter,” a Cabernet Sauvignon aged in Rye whiskey barrels, which has been produced every vintage since then.
The latest addition to the curated team of winemakers is Caleb Foster. “We are eagerly anticipating the release of Caleb’s debut wines this summer,” says Steve Bosma. The new wines feature a 2023 Rosé and 2022 Syrah. “During Spring Barrel Tasting this year, guests had the exclusive opportunity to sample previews of Caleb’s 2023 Carménère and 2023 Cabernet Franc straight from the barrel. These are slated for release in the fall of 2025.” adds Julie.
