If you’ve spent much time in Woodinville, the odds are favorable you’ve come across one of the two Patterson Cellars tasting rooms. Now they’ve expanded beyond the Seattle marketplace into the picturesque town of Leavenworth to set up shop on 9th Avenue (a short side street off the busy main drag). Look for signage over the doorway proclaiming The Wine Cellar: 6 Tasting Rooms in Old English typeface.
The wine flights here include a sample of five to six wines from a repertoire of popular single varietals, masterfully crafted red and white blends, sparkling wine, and dessert wines such as their late harvest Roussanne.
The strong, quiet-spoken and enigmatic winemaker John Patterson creates approachable, new world style wines while never taking his eye off the caliber and consistency of his wares. “The goal in making wine is to build the best wine you can produce every year, which is always the challenge that makes it interesting,” he shares.
“I like the science behind the art of winemaking, and it is a unique puzzle as you approach harvest to produce wines that are consistent from year to year.”
John’s genius brain is constantly working overtime—with a thirst for knowledge and strong technical foundation in winemaking he continues to elevate his creativity beyond the norm, such as with his recent foray into sparkling and Port style wines.
His reputation for collaboration and partnership with local wineries and breweries, combined with his vision for promoting Woodinville as a wine destination have earned him respect from his peers.
